Day 9 of the calendar brings us a Republic Assault Ship. These were part of the army the Kaminos had been developing and building for years. They were seen in Attack of the Clones when thousands of clone troopers are marching into them, readying for battle. These ships were meant to unleash violence upon a target.
In the Bible, we see someone else whose sole purpose is to unleash violence.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
–John 10:10 (ESV)
Since he was cast out of Heaven, Satan has made it his mission to destroy humanity and creation. It’s an attempt to get back at God. Vengeance. Satan is called the “ruler of this world” (John 12:31), the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), and the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
Jesus came to rescue and redeem humanity, to “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10), and this means defeating Satan. We see this back in the Garden of Eden when God told of Satan’s downfall at the hands of Jesus (Genesis 3:15). For those that follow Jesus, they are delivered from Satan’s dominion and are now part of God’s Kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
And yet Satan continues his efforts to steal, kill and destroy as many as possible. Contrast that with the latter part of the verse. Jesus came so that we may have life, and have it abundantly. A good reminder with the Nativity. All of that was for our benefit. All of that was a precursor to defeating Satan and evil forever.
Satan will continue to unleash Hell on creation and humanity for as long as possible, but in the end it will not matter. Jesus defeated it on the cross. He was born to do so.
