Day three brings us another droid, the FA-4. This droid was primarily a pilot droid, piloting all sorts of vessels. They differed from astromech droids which primarily did repairs and navigation. An FA-4 droid piloted Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer, which was profiled yesterday.
Thinking about the FA-4 droid, particularly one piloting Count Dooku’s ship, I think of the many important moments it was a part of whether it realized it or not. Many of the droids in the Star Wars universe had some sentient abilities. We see this particularly with C-3PO and R2-D2. The droids were creations, often in the periphery of historical moments.
Often inferred in the Nativity story is the presence of animals. Mary being pregnant probably rode an animal to Bethlehem. Jesus was placed in a manger, after he was born, so some kind of animals are nearby. Shepherds leave their flocks to see the baby Jesus.
Humanity has dominion over the Earth, but humanity is also asked to steward it. There is a respect for Creation throughout the Bible, which is logical since God (the Creator) is behind it.
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.
–Romans 8:19-22 (ESV)
The animals present at the birth of Jesus, the surrounding nature, the creations of God not filled with a spirit, did they have a deeper connection with the moment? Not an awareness of the Messiah, not sentient (obviously), but was there an…increase in the fullness of life, for the animals and nature, due to proximity with the Nativity?
Maybe it’s just an interesting point to me. Just a thought.
Nature is already awe-inducing. What will it be like that day when it is restored to fullness? Jesus came not only to redeem humanity, but to restore all of creation.
It will be amazing to experience creation that day.
