This Thursday I’ll be participating in the TOMS event, One Day Without Shoes. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness for children who grow up in developing countries without shoes. Often, these children are at risk for serious infection and injury because they don’t have shoes.

When I led a team to Nigeria, back in 2000, we always had to have shoes on because of risk of disease and worms that enter the body through your feet. I remember seeing a lot of kids that didn’t have shoes who were running around and wondering how they could live a healthy life.

I will be blogging and tweeting about the experience throughout the day.

TOMS gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes that someone buys from their store. Please check out their website for more information about their efforts.
